Under heading marriage it has married Nov. 8, 1825 and lists a different couple. Then other couples listed. So most likely Luther and Sally married sometimes between Nov. 8 and Dec. 6, 1825.

    • The marriage certificate from George Mattoon and Mary Ann Richardson has Licence returned not used written on it. This is a certificate from Fitchville, Huron County, State of Ohio. The Certificate has George P. Mattoon and Mary Ann Richardson. So this gives her last name.
In the 1850 license, Mary Ricardson is age 13.
In the 1860 Census Household of Luther Ricahrdson age 57 living in Fitchville, Huron County, Ohio, there is Luther Richardson 57, John Richardson (his son) 32, George Mattoon 22, Mary Mattoon 22 (Luther's daughter Mary Richardson), Jane Mattoon 4 and Adelia Mattoon 2 and Leander Perros 16. So this has Mary Ann Richardson with the last name of Mattoon implying she and George Mattoon were married and they have 2 children Jane 4 and Adelia 2. This would have Jane born in 1856. This would go with a marriage of July 5, 1855. Perhaps they married in a different town.
Henry R. Timman could not find legal marriage certificate and he could not find divorce information in Huron county for George E. Mattoon and Mary Ann Richardson. But he could find a marraiage of George E. Mattoon to Martha A. Miller on 4 July 1866 at Monroeville in Huron County. Likewise, there is a marriage of Mary A. Ricahrdson to Ira Scott on 30 Nov. 1861 in Fitchville, Huron County, Ohio.

    • 1850 Census Huron County, Ohio, Fitchville Twp., Ln 27, Dwelling 1377, Family 1404, M432, Roll 697, 429, National Archives-General Services Administration. The 1850 Census has Mary Richardson 13 born in OH. (I believe Ohio is correct.) In 1850, she is living with her father in Fitchville, Huron County, Vermont.

In 1860 Census she is living with her father Luther Richardson age 57. And in the household there is John Richardson (brother) 32, George Mattoon 22 (husband?), Mary Mattoon (Mary Richardson with last name Mattoon in this census), Jane Mattoon 4 and Adelia Matton 2. (Most likely daughters of Mary and George Mattoon.) The 1860 Census indicates that she was born in Vermont.

Interestingly, On July 5, 1855 when Mary was 18 or possibly still 17, there was a marriage license issued to George E. Mattoon and Mary Ann Richardson. The license is crossed out with words printed on it "License Returned, not used." So perhaps they married elsewhere, or perhaps if she was only 17, they couldn't legally marry until she turned 18 or perhaps they married and didn't have it officially recorded or perhaps they never formally married. But Jane is born in 1856 about a year later as she is 4 in the 1860 census and then there is an Adelia born that is 2 in the 1860 census. The children are given the last name of Mattoon.

There is a marriage license recorded for Mary Ann Richardson to Ira Scott on 30 Nov. 1861 in Fitchville, Huron County, Ohio. So a year after the 1860 census, Mary does marry someone else. And note that she uses the name Mary Ann Richardson rather than Mary Mattoon. Perhaps she was never officially married to George.

There is no record of a divorce in Huron County for Mary Ann Richardson and George Mattoon. Few records seem to be recorded in Ohio. Maybe this indicates that she was not formally or legally married to George Mattoon.

Mary is listed as daughter of Sally and Luther Richardson in land dispute between Luther Richardson and Robert Richardson et all in June 4, 1849.

Indicates that Mary was born in Vermont. It lists her age as 22 years old in the 1860 census. The census was taken in July of 1860. So this would make her birth Abt. 1838.
